We took a well-earned break in November 2013 and Newfy boys Henry & Enzo travelled with us to Central Otago. We decided to base ourselves at Lake Wanaka and this time travel a little more, meaning we could experience some pretty cool places and still have time to return to the lake for Enzo's daily swims. |
Once again we stayed at the dog friendly 'Lake Outlet Holiday Park' right where beautiful lake Wanaka begins the mighty Clutha River, which is so clear that it was easy to spot the Trout from the walking track. From here the Newfoundland dogs could enjoy either the lake or the river at any time. |
All this lake, river and travel activity made for a pretty tiring Newfy day...

Queenstown was a short drive from Wanaka over the Crown Range, New Zealand's highest sealed road (1076 m), a totally impressive drive. Newfoundlands Henry & Enzo are pictured here in Queenstown, with the Remarkables in the background.

Here the Newfs are watching the TSS Earnslaw on Lake Wakatipu. The 1912 Earnslaw, based at Queenstown is the only coal fired steamship to still carry passengers in the Southern Hemisphere. |
One of New Zealand's most iconic pubs, 'The Cardrona' is between Wanaka and Queenstown. Unfortunately Henry & Enzo are both too young to go in for a drink...
Not too young for a snack at a cafe though! Henry appears to be licking his lips in anticipation outside the 'Grain & Seed Cafe' in old Cromwell. |
Central Otago is filled with excellent wineries. Enzo and Henry are pictured here (with special permission) at the stunning grounds of the Carrick Winery in Bannockburn. Thanks guys, for being so hospitable!
